History as City Commissioner
 Susan Persis, City Commissioner for Zone 3, was elected on November 6, 2018 and re-elected without opposition in 2020. 
  
Education & Work History
 Commissioner Persis is a graduate of Seabreeze High School, earned her bachelor of science degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University and her masters of science degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
 
 Commissioner Persis is currently retired. Previously, she was a teacher in elementary and middle schools for 17 years, Assistant Principal at elementary and middle schools for 9 years and Principal of Pine Trail, Indian River and Ormond Beach Elementary Schools over a period of 13 years.
 
 She was recipient of the State of Florida Innovative Principal of the Year in 2014; State President of the Florida Association of School Administrators from 2009-2011; and President of the East Central Florida Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa from 2001-2003. 
 
Community Involvement
 Commissioner Persis has served on the following boards/committees: Quality of Life, Halifax Humane Society Leadership, Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens, Ormond Beach MainStreet, Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce, and Junior League of Daytona Beach. She has been involved with Ho Ho Ho Women, a non-profit organization that raises money and provides gifts for children in need during the holidays, and was the recipient of the 2018 Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Florida Elks Association.
 
Family
 Commissioner Persis was born in Halifax Hospital and grew up in the Ormond/Daytona Beach area. She and her husband Carl have two children, two grandsons, and two controlling cats.
