Applicants for positions with the Police Department must be:

  • 19 years of age

  • Have a High School diploma, G.E.D., or other certificate of competency

Preference is given to those applicants that hold a college degree, and/or military experience.

Police Officer - $27,005 - $42,258
Community Service Officer - $21,278 - $36,649
Communications Officer - $22,343 - $38,483
Records Clerk - $18,377 - $31,652

*Starting salaries may vary dependent on experience and education.

Pay Plan

Salaries increase each year by a minimum of 3.2%, with satisfactory performance, until the employee reaches the top of the pay range.

Insurance

The City provides medical, dental, vision, AD&D, and basic life insurance at no cost to the employee. The employee may purchase dependent coverage.

Pension

All employees are vested in their pension plan after ten years of service.  Police Officers may retire after twenty years at 64.4% of their annual salary, regardless of age.

Personal Leave and Holidays

Employees receive ten paid holidays each year.  In addition employees receive additional leave corresponding with their tenure with the City.  The first to fourth year of service the employee receives 18 days of leave.

Education Reimbursement

Costs associated with job related college courses are reimbursed by the City, provided the employee receives a grade of "C" or better.
